*ASSAM RIFLES CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY*

           Units and Sectors under command of HQ IGAR (South) celebrates 74th Independence Day 2020 throughout the state on 15th Aug 2020.  

          9 Sector Assam Rifles alongwith all its Battalions celebrated this significant day with students and parents of Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS). The troops as well as the children participated with full zeal and vigour in their traditional attires. As part of celebrations and to thrive our efforts towards relentlessly pursuing the "Go Green" initiative, the Battalions of 9 Sector Assam Rifles carried out tree plantations at various locations. 

          Mantripukhri Batallion carried out a wreath laying and flag-hoisting at the Battalion Head Quarter alongwith flag-hoisting at all Company Operating Bases (COB). The program also had compilation of patriotic songs to boost the patriotic fervour and remind everyone of the sacrifices made by our predecessors to safeguard our motherland. Likewise, Keithelmanbi Batallion carried out tree plantation inside the Keithelmanbi Garrison and at Hanuman Top COB and planted 275 saplings to mark the occasion. Thoubal Batallion in collaboration with Forest Department carried out tree plantation drives at the Batallion Head Quarter and all its Company Operating Bases in which 2044 Saplings were planted. Celebration of the 74th Independence day by 9 Sector AR and all its Batallions infused a feel of patriotism amongst the locals and a sense of giving back to mother nature amongst its personnels .

         

Similarly, Chandel Battalion celebrated the 74th Independence Day with the children of the Orphanage Home, Hnatham village, Chandel. The celebration at the school started with the hoisting of the National Flag and singing of the National Anthem. The Orphanage home was running short of stationary items and clothes, therefore to fulfill their dire needs Note-books, Pencils and Dresses were distributed on the occasion. To instill sense of pride and patriotism, national flags were distributed to children. The children participated with lots of zeal and enthusiasm. The endeavour of the Assam Rifles in promoting peace, harmony and sense of patriotism was appreciated by Children and staffs of the Orphanage Home.

          Subsequently, Moreh Battalion also celebrated 74th Independence day with Jehovah Jireh Children’s Home, Moreh. Approximately 40 kids and staffs of the Children Home

enthusiastically participated in the Independence Day celebration. Apart from distribution of sweets and cup-cakes, kids were also motivated to do well in academics so as to have a successful future and to contribute positively towards nation -building. The effort by the Moreh Battalion was well appreciated by the Orphanage Staff for celebrating Independence Day with kids and inculcating the sense of patriotism in young minds. Sweets were also distributed to the daily wagers working along Indo - Myanmar Border.

STATE GOVERNMENT CELEBRATED 74TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

        Manipur Government celebrated the country’s 74th Independence Day today at the first Manipur Rifles Battalion Parade  ground in Imphal amid tight security. Chief Minister N. Biren was the chief guest of the function. He unfurled the tricolor and took salute at the occasion. The chief minister during the function also gave away gallantry awards to manipur police personnel for displaying outstanding and distinguished service. Ministers, MLAs, top civil, and police officials were among those attended the celebration. On the occasion, chief minister’s trophy for community service was given to different police officers for the service they rendered to the public during the covid-19 pandemic. chief Minister’s trophy for anti-drug campaign was also given to police officers during the celebrations. Paona brajabashi award was conferred on NCC candidate N Bunty and Rani Gaidinliu award on Mayanglambam Merita Devi. Biren also handed over rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to Salam Ongbi Monica, wife of late assam rifles jawan who was killed during an attack by militants at sajik tampak recently.  Chief minister commended all award recipients and said they are pride of the state. He stated that those who had sacrificed for the nation will always be remembered by generations to come. Security was tightened across the state during the Independence Day celebrations as militant groups called for a total shutdown. The Co-ordination Committee (CorCom) and Alliance for Social Unity Kangleipak (ASUK), two umbrella bodies of major militant outfits operating in the state have called for a total shutdown today to boycott the Independence Day celebrations. Earlier, six banned insurgent outfits in the Northeast called for a total shutdown in the region for 11 hours from 6 am till 5 pm today. Two non-SoO Kuki militant outfits in Manipur, the KNF-N (Kuki National Front -Nehlun) and SDFK (Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland) also called to boycott India’s 74th Independence Day in all Kuki dominated areas in Manipur.

          The 19th Great June Uprising Day was observed in Imphal and other places today with few selected people. The few selected people invited by the organisers came to Kekrupat and paid floral tributes to the 18 people who sacrificed their live for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur in 18 June 2001. During the function, The President of UCM and chairman of the Observation Committee Sunil Karam said, “This time only family members of the 18 persons who laid down their lives were invited taking in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Also, we did not invite the titular king, LeishembaSanajaoba, as many sections have started boycotting him”. On June 14, 2001, the Union government signed the amended ceasefire agreement with the NSCN(IM), inserting the words “without territorial limits”. As it had serious implications, Manipur objected. On June 18, all sections of people came out on the streets. There were arson and protest at many places. The Assembly complex and offices of many political parties were partially burned down. Residences of certain Ministers, MPs, and the Chief Minister’s office were also damaged and singed. When indefinite curfew and deployment of Central forces in addition to State forces did not have the desired impact, the Union government eventually deleted the offending three words.

                As the number game getting serious in the political war between BJP-led Government and Congress. The Congress party of Manipur and its allies have reconstituted a Secular Progressive Front (SPF) with Former-CM O Ibobi as its leader and urged the Governor Njama Heptulla to conduct a special session of Assembly. Including the four NPP, Trinamool Congress which has one MLA and an Independent MLA are walking together in this new political alliance arising in this sudden tide of political war. Speaking to media persons at a Congress camp here this evening, ex-Chief Minister O Ibobi who is leading the SPF said that if the people of Manipur want a new Government in place of the incumbent Government, the new Government would also be a coalition Government because no single party has enough MLAs to form Government on their own. He said that memoranda have been submitted to the Governor and the Assembly Speaker this afternoon to convene a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and hold a floor test of Chief Minister N Biren’s Government. The Governor has been requested to summon a special session of the Assembly at the shortest possible time to vote on the no-confidence motion moved against the present ‘minority’ Council of Ministers to protect democracy in the State, Ibobi said. Congress party was saying that it would remain as a constructive opposition party. Ibobi informed that they have obtained an appointment with the Governor at 5 pm tomorrow. To a query, the CLP leader said that there are 27 Congress MLAs in total. “The SPF formed today is not a totally new one but the fourth incarnation of a similar alliance and I have fair experience of running a coalition Government”, Ibobi claimed

Chinese commander killed in Ladakh clashes, 4 Indian soldiers seriously

             A Chinese commanding officer has been killed in a clash between India and China over the Line of Control (LoC) in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. News agency ANI reported this news. According to multiple media reports, 43 Chinese soldiers were killed. Beijing has also officially acknowledged the casualties. However, the number of casualties is not yet clear.


On the other hand, the Indian Army has already confirmed the death of 20 soldiers, including a colonel, in the Ladakh clashes. Army sources said that four more soldiers were seriously injured along with him. The news agency ANI quoted army sources as saying.



Indo-Chinese military clashes on the Line of Actual Control (LoC) in the Galwan Valley have been raging since Monday evening. Although the shelling did not continue, many people were killed on both sides in the fight with sticks and rods. Earlier on Tuesday, the Indian military said three people had been killed. But at night, the Indian military confirmed that 17 more soldiers had been killed and seriously injured in the clashes.

The death toll in Corona is 9,500, with a total of 3.32 lakh infected

                        The number of new cases of corona virus in the country has increased to 11,000. In the last 24 hours, 11,502 people in the country reported positive. The total number of victims in the country is three lakh 32 thousand 424. Maharashtra has already entered the homes of lakhs. Tamil Nadu and Delhi are running around fifty thousand.

The number of victims as well as the number of deaths is increasing. According to the Union Health Ministry, 325 people have died in the country in the last 24 hours. Haryana (6,206), Karnataka (6,000), Bihar (6,480), Andhra Pradesh (6,173), Jammu and Kashmir (5,041) have crossed the 5,000-border mark. According to the Union Ministry of Health, 369 people have been infected with corona in West Bengal in the last 24 hours. A total of 11,006 people were affected in the state. A total of 465 people have died in the state.

Although the number of corona cases is increasing at a significant rate every day, the number of people recovering from the disease is also increasing. The number of recoveries is now higher than the number of active patients. One lakh 79 thousand 696 people have recovered from the infection. Seven thousand 419 people have recovered in the last 24 hours.

COLD BLOODED MURDER OF A YOUTH IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AT GUWAHATI

        The deceased Rituparna Pegu 24 yrs of age was brutally murdered by a group of 4 people including a minor following an altercation in a shop in Noonmati, Guwahati. He leaves behind his wife and a 7 month old infant. The incident was captured on CCTV camera.

Pegu's death sparked protests across Noonmati in Guwahati. and on social media. 

In a new development in the broad daylight killing of a 26-year-old youth in Guwahati on Friday, the case will now be transferred to the Crime investigation Department (ClD) for further investigation.

Dhanraj Doley, president of Missing Students' Association, Delhi (MiSAD), said that they are waiting for the postmortem report to come out, following which the body will be taken to the deceased's native place, Akajan, for the last rites.

Further, he said that Assam‘s Missing community is planning on submitting a memorandum with three main demands a charge-sheet within 90 days, prompt action, and punishment to the guilty, and providing adequate compensation to the wife and infant of the deceased. 

According to Doley, since Pegu's widow is a housewife, the government should give her a job as compensation. 

Meanwhile, Guwahati Police tweeted, “@GuwahatiPol arrested 5 persons viz. Hussain Ali, Dulal Ali, Ibrahim Ali, Manuwara Khatun & Arman Ali for murder of a 26 yrs old person at Noonmati on 12 Jun 2020. A case vide Noonmati PS C/no. 294/20 u/s 147/148/149/302 IPC registered and investigation is on. @assampolice."
