Saudi may allow Hajj on a limited basis.

Due to the Corona epidemic, Saudi Arabia plans to allow a small number of pilgrims this year without canceling the Hajj altogether. The Reuters news agency reported on Monday, citing Saudi authorities.

Corona infections have been on the rise in Saudi Arabia for several days. The number of corona cases in the country has already exceeded 1 lakh. At the same time the infection is increasing in most of the countries of the world. The increase in this outbreak has raised doubts about whether the upcoming Hajj will be held this year. In this situation, the authorities are planning to allow a limited number of worshipers to perform Hajj.

Reuters quoted two sources as saying that the authorities were considering allowing only "symbolic numbers" of pilgrims to perform the Hajj. However, older people will not get this opportunity. Everyone has to go through additional health checks.

Another source told Reuters that the authorities thought it would be possible to allow up to 20 per cent of the pilgrims assigned to each country through a strict process. However, all three sources said that some Saudi officials were pushing for the cancellation of the Hajj this time because of the risk of corona.

A spokesman for the government media office and the Hajj and Umrah ministry did not comment.

Every year, at least 2.5 million devout Muslims from around the world travel to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj. The annual revenue of the Saudi government from Hajj and Umrah is about ২০০ 1.200 billion.

Earlier in March, Saudi Arabia advised worshipers not to plan for the Hajj now but to wait until the coronavirus epidemic became clear. The Umrah was declared closed until further notice. The Hajj is expected to start by the end of July this year.

Last year, about 20 million pilgrims performed Umrah. About 27 lakh performed Hajj.
