      Protein is an essential nutrient in the body. To take care of the body, to maintain the balance of blood sugar, estrogen hormones and a healthy thyroid, above all, the body needs enough protein for overall well-being. Lack of protein can lead to excessive physical illness. Adequate protein is needed to strengthen muscles. Protein is equally important for weight control. 

Those who want to lose weight and become lean need to include protein rich foods in their daily diet. Protein-rich foods help keep the stomach full for a long time. As a result, the tendency to eat protein foods again and again will be eliminated. 

However, how much protein should be eaten depends on body weight, height, physical condition, age. The need to eat protein means that eating protein without following any rules can be counterproductive. A healthy adult man and woman can consume 50-60 grams and 60-70 grams of protein per day respectively. Pregnant women or those who are breastfeeding need more protein. 

In addition, those who exercise regularly or have physical weakness can also eat the right amount of protein-rich foods following the advice of nutritionists. 

It is important to include protein rich foods in your daily diet. Start the morning with a few protein-rich foods like eggs, various seasonal fruits. For the rest of the day, even if it is a small amount of protein.

Fire breaks out in Charbhairavi market, half a hundred shops burnt down

 

        A fire broke out at a food hotel in Charbhairabi Bazar of Haimchar upazila of Chandpur and burnt down about 50 shops in the market. 

The incident took place around 5:30 am on Thursday. The fire was brought under control around 8 am with the help of local people and two teams of fire service. 

Witness Shimul Chokder, a resident of Charbhairabi, said, “The fire started from the kitchen of Islamia Hotel in Bazar. The fire broke out at a nearby gas cylinder, petrol, diesel and yarn shop. As a result, at least 50 other small and large shops in the area were set on fire. 

'Most of the shops were closed at that time. Besides, most of the shops where people used to stay were praying at that time. 

Anwar Sardar, a businessman affected by the fire, said, “I had goods worth around Tk 2 crore in my business establishment next to the hotel where the fire started. Among them were various types of yarn nets including petrol, diesel and gas cylinders for fishermen. Everything has been burnt to ashes in an instant. ' 

Charbhairabi UP member Almas Bakaul said, “This market depends on the local Jalepalli. Apart from the essentials of fishermen, other daily necessities are also available here. That is why there are shops selling petrol, diesel and gas cylinders in the open market or in tin houses. 

Chandpur Fire Service Deputy Director. Sahidul Islam said, 'After receiving the news of the fire, our two units came there as soon as possible and controlled the fire. But as there were shops of cylinder gas, petrol and diesel irregularly, about 50 shops were burnt down at that moment. 

He added, 'Most of the shops could not be protected as they were made of wood and tin. The fire spread quickly in the strong winds as the shops were on the banks of the river. However, the amount of damage has not been confirmed yet. 

Confirming the start of the fire from the food hotel, he said the local administration had compiled a list of victims at the scene.

HDFC Life to acquire Exide Life Insurance for Rs 6,687 crore

 

Private sector life insurer HDFC Life on Friday said it will acquire a 100 per cent stake in Exide Life Insurance  Company for Rs 6,887 crore from Exide Industries Ltd (EIL) and subsequently, it will be merged with HDFC Life, subject to regulatory approvals. 

This marks one of the first and the largest acquisitions in the life insurance space, which has 23 private players and one state-owned insurer - Life Insurance Corporation (LIC). Previously, HDFC Life had intended to acquire Max Life but the deal did not go through because of regulatory hurdles. Experts said this deal will, however, is not expected to face any such regulatory hurdles. 

Earlier, Reliance Capital, the NBFC arm of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, had acquired the entire stake in AMP Sanmar from Australian insurer AMP and the Sanmar group in October 2005 for a little over Rs 100 crore. HDFC Life’s proposed acquisition will mark the first acquisition in the past 16 years in the life insurance space. 

Of the Rs 6,887 crore that HDFC Life will be paying to acquire Exide Life Insurance, Rs 725 crore will be payable in cash, and the balance by issuing 87.02 million equity shares of face value of Rs 10 of the company issued at a price of Rs 685 per share to Exide Industries Limited, the holding company of Exide Life Insurance. EIL's total investment in Exide Life as on date was Rs 1679.59 crore. 

Post the acquisition, Exide Industries will hold a 4.1 per cent stake in HDFC Life and mortgage lender HDFC Ltd, which holds 49.9 per cent stake in HDFC Life, will see its stake come down to 47.9 per cent. 

In a statement, HDFC Life, one of the largest private insurers in the life insurance space, said, “The proposed transaction will accelerate the growth of the agency business of HDFC Life. Exide Life complements HDFC Life’s geographical presence and has a strong foothold in South India, especially in Tier 2 and 3 towns, thus providing access to a wider market”. 

HDFC Life’s agent base will get augmented by 36,700 agents post the acquisition and its agent base will grow to 144,605 from the current 107,895 agents. 

Also, the good quality of predominantly traditional and protection focussed business will augment the existing embedded value of HDFC Life by approximately 10 per cent. As of June 30, the embedded value of Exide Life is Rs. 2,711 crore and

The date of completion of the sale depends on the time taken for receiving all approvals, including those from concerned regulators. However, it is estimated that the sale will be completed before June 2022. 

“The proposed transaction will give customers access to a wider bouquet of products and service touchpoints. Employees and agents will benefit from a larger, stronger organisation that realises the synergies arising out of complementary business models built on similar ethos”, HDFC Life said in a statement. 

In FY21, Exide Life Insurance earned premiums to the tune of Rs 3,325 crore. It’s asset under management was to the tune of Rs 18,870 crore as of June 30, 2021. Exide life reported revenue of Rs 4,937.46 crore in the year ended March 2021 with a net worth of Rs 1,481.42 crore.

On the proposed acquisition, Deepak Parekh, chairman, HDFC Life said, “This is a landmark transaction, first of its kind, in the Indian life insurance space. It would enhance insurance penetration and further our purpose of providing financial protection to a wider customer base.”

Vibha Padalkar, MD&CEO, HDFC Life said, “We believe that this amalgamation can result in value creation for customers, employees, shareholders and distribution partners. It gives us an opportunity to realise synergies arising out of complementary business models, and further bolster our proprietary distribution network”. 

Shares of HDFC Life are trading 3 per cent lower at Rs 735.90 post the announcement of the acquisition. 

HDFC Life had reported a 33 per cent decline in standalone net profits at Rs 302 crore in Q1FY22 due to higher claim payout by the company and higher provisions being set aside to mitigate the impact of higher claims because of the pandemic. It has set up an additional reserve of Rs 700 crore to service further claims. The solvency ratio of the insurer at the end of Q1FY22 stood at 203 per cent, higher than the regulatory requirement of 150 per cent. 

An industry expert said insurance by nature is a capital-guzzling business so it’s the management’s call whether to infuse capital in the company at regular intervals or exit the company completely by selling it lock, stock, and barrel. With foreign direct investment in the insurance sector increased to 74 per cent, we may see promoters of smaller companies exit the space by selling their stake to foreign companies.

Delhi Records Less Than 2,000 Cases In 24 Hours

New Delhi:  Delhi recorded 1,649 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest since March 30, and 189 fatalities on Sunday, while the positivity rate slipped to 2.42 per cent, even as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extended the lockdown in the capital by another week. 

This is the second day on the trot that the number of deaths remained less than 200. 

This is also the lowest daily spike in cases recorded since March 30 (992) and the first time that the count has gone below the 2,000-mark since April 1, when 2,790 people tested positive for the infection. 

Meanwhile, India delayed the process of bulk-buying vaccines unlike several other nations and may now have few options available in the international market. "Aren't we a little late to the table on this one?" said Dr Gagandeep Kang, a top virologist who is also a member of the Supreme Court-appointed committee on medical oxygen. 

"The rest of the world has been buying vaccines at risk for a year, so what's the supply that is available in the market for us to go now and say we want to buy vaccines?" she said.

            KOLKATA:    WEST Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has warned the State’s newly-elected Trinamool Congress (TMC) Government to “not force me to use my constitutional powers”, sparking a fresh artillery exchange with the ruling party. “He forgot his constitutional position by calling for a change in the State. His appeal was rejected, so old man is now obviously frustrated,” said Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, while reacting to the Governor’s warning. Governor Dhankhar has been touring ‘violence-hit areas’ since the Trinamool returned to power with a landslide.

His visit to Sitalkuchi in Northern Bengal provoked angry response from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who reminded Dhankhar of his constitutional obligations of working on the ‘aid and advice’ of the elected Government. The trip to Sitalkuchi, hit by poll-time violence where some voters were killed in firing by Central forces, was followed by Dhankhar’s visit to makeshift camps in Assam where ‘victims of political violence’ in West Bengal were sheltered.

His comment that this was a ‘blot on governance’ in West Bengal provoked accusations that Dhankhar was ‘less a Governor and more a BJP functionary.’ Dhankhar on Saturday said he was shocked at the condition of several families who were rendered homeless after they had allegedly faced atrocities at the hands of ruling TMC workers. He wondered whether the Chief Minister has heard the cries of women and children, who took refuge in camps after clashes.

UN General Assembly To Consider Call For Myanmar Arms Embargo

       United Nations, United States: The UN General Assembly on Tuesday is set to consider a draft non-binding resolution calling for "an immediate suspension" of the transfer of weapons to the military junta of Myanmar, a UN official said Sunday.

Unlike Security Council resolutions, General Assembly resolutions are non-binding but carry strong political significance.

If an approval by consensus cannot be reached then the full General Assembly  193 member states  will vote on the measure.

Introduced by Liechtenstein, with support from the European Union, Britain, and the United States, the measure will be considered at the plenary meeting set for Tuesday at 1900 GMT.

The draft resolution calls for "an immediate suspension of the direct and indirect supply, sale, or transfer of all weapons, munitions, and other military-related equipment to Myanmar."

"The meeting will be in person," a UN spokesman told AFP.

The draft, which has been under negotiation for weeks, is co-sponsored by 48 countries, with South Korea the sole Asian country.

It also calls on military to "end the state of emergency" and immediately stop "all violence against peaceful demonstrators," as well as "immediately and unconditionally release President Win Myint, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi" and everyone who has been "arbitrarily detained, charged or arrested" since the February 1 coup.

The draft adds a call to "swiftly implement" a five-point consensus reached with leaders from the 10-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on April 24, to "facilitate the visit" of the special UN envoy to Myanmar, and to provide "safe and unimpeded humanitarian access."

Several NGOs have long been calling for an arms embargo on Myanmar.

Since February 1, the Security Council has unanimously adopted four statements on Myanmar, but each time, they have been watered down in negotiations, notably by Beijing.

Barcelona routs Chelsea 4-0 to win Women’s Champions League final for 1st time

         Barcelona’s slow start two years ago doomed its European dream so this time it came out firing against Chelsea, scoring after just 32 seconds  route to a 4-0 victory and its first Women’s Champions League title on Sunday.

In a ruthless offensive display, Barcelona’s attackers sliced through Chelsea’s defense and did all of their scoring inside 36 minutes, beginning with an own-goal.

Barca is the first team from Spain to win Europe’s top club competition, which had been dominated recently by seven-time champions Lyon.

In its only other appearance in the final, Barcelona lost 4-1 to Lyon in 2019 after conceding a goal after five minutes and falling behind 4-0 before halftime in Budapest.

“The idea is to keep dominating European football,” Barcelona coach Lluis Cortes said. “Winning this game is part of the journey and losing in Budapest was part of it, too.”

Making its first appearance in the final, Chelsea was under pressure immediately and went down 1-0 when a clearance ricocheted off Chelsea midfielder Melanie Leupolz and over goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger into the net.

Alexia Putellas scored from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Leupolz was adjudged to have fouled Jenni Hermoso in the box. Seven minutes later, Aitana Bonmati collected a pass from Putellas in front of goal, shot past Berger, and the rout was on for Cortes’ side.

Lieke Martens brilliantly set up the fourth goal, dribbling down the left side and crossing to Caroline Graham Hansen, who blasted it into the net from close range in the 36th minute at an empty Gamla Ullevi stadium.

The 34-year-old Cortes said his side played with confidence right from the start.

“The final is to be won, and that’s what we did,” he said, adding that it’s a victory for all of Spanish women’s soccer.

The championship is also a boost for a Barcelona club that is heavily in debt and with a men’s side that has stumbled lately. The club could also face sanctions for its support of the ill-fated European Super League.

Chelsea was the first English team to reach the final since 2007, when Arsenal won the competition.

“We didn’t have the start to the game that we wanted and in these types of games against these opponents, you can’t concede sloppy goals,“ Chelsea defender Millie Bright told BT Sport.

The loss ended Chelsea’s bid to match Arsenal’s quadruple from 14 years ago. The Blues have won the Women’s Super League title and League Cup this season and are still alive in the women’s FA Cup.

Chelsea threatened after the own-goal when Pernille Harder caught up to a cross but shot high.

Blues manager Emma Hayes cited inexperience and “naivety at times” by her side.

“Today was difficult because the game was over before it began,” she said. “To concede so early and then we had two good chances, then they got the second through a penalty. The damage was done.”

The Blues started the second half with more urgency but barely threatened.

This campaign, Barcelona eliminated Manchester City in the quarterfinals and Paris Saint-Germain in the semis. PSG had earlier beaten Lyon.
