Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of an elephant in Kerala. It is alleged that he provided the explosives. He is also known to have played an important role in feeding the elephant with explosives. However, the police suspect that several people were involved in the incident. The investigation team also identified the three suspects yesterday. Their role is being scrutinized.
Surendra Kumar, head of the state wildlife conservation department, said the accused was in his forties. Palakkar police chief G Shiv Vikram said,
“The accused is a lac collector from a rubber tree. Several others are involved in the incident. We are looking for them. "
The dead elephant lived in the Silent Valley National Park in Kerala. She came to a village in Palakkad district last month in search of food. Allegedly, he suffered a serious injury to his lower jaw and tongue after eating fruit filled with firecrackers. Later, the elephant went to the river Velia and stopped. Attempts by the forest department to retrieve him were unsuccessful. On the contrary, the elephant died in that river.
An autopsy report later revealed that the elephant had been injured several days earlier. As a result, he could not eat well. The face also became thinner. In order to protect the crops in the area from wild pigs, it is customary to fill the food with explosives. It is suspected that the elephant died after eating such a fruit. However, forest officials are still not sure about that.
